Athlete of the MonthNovember

You won’t find anyone else who loves their family more, loves coffee and makes the funniest faces!

It’s time for our November Athlete of the Month @heatherj0y! You won’t find anyone else who loves their family more, loves coffee and makes the funniest faces! A beautiful woman inside and out and we love that she’s one of our athletes!

1. What’s your athletic background?
It was pretty much nonexistent until CrossFit! There were a few years where I’d go to a gym consistently, but it was so boring and LONELY! I found it difficult to maintain, especially with the only source of accountability being my health insurance discount! I eventually became a slash and dash “athlete” until CrossFit saved me!

2. When did you start working out at CrossFit Osiris?
March 2014 I started at Charis! A lot of my friends had joined during the “garage” Days and I had hard core FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). I couldn’t afford it at the time, but had an “anonymous sponsor” to start me off for the first 6 months. That generous gift launched me into a whole new lifestyle!

3. What keeps you coming back?
Most definitely the COMMUNITY! I mean where else do you find a diverse group of people that workout, compete, eat, drink and laugh together? All while pursuing an overall healthy lifestyle? CrossFit is my place to relieve stress, talk about the good bad and the ugly and leave it all on the floor in the form of swear Angels (sorry Ferris)!

4. If you could write the WOD, what would it be?
12 min AMRAP: 10 hang cleans, 15 Dead lifts, 15 cal Row
Yeah, I like rowing.

5. What are some of your goals, fitness or personal?
Always pursue a healthier version of myself! Sometimes when we set concrete goals, life happens and we “fail”. But I prefer to just always pursue physical, emotional and spiritual health. All 3 balanced make us the best versions of ourselves. To me the balance is far more important than finally hitting that “number”, whatever that represents.

6. List one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CrossFit.
I ran my first mile EVER without stopping during Murph one year! That was HUGE! And I’ve finally figured out the source to my lower back and knee pain! I’ve also been able to view myself as an athlete even if I haven’t hit my “ideal” weight yet. I’m stronger than most of my friends so I’m proud of that!

7. How do you like to spend your free time?
Free time? Is that a thing? Hmmm.. Probably Hallmark Christmas; Movies, wine and friends! These are a few of my favorite things!

8. What’s your favorite cheat meal?
Red Cow cheese curds, kettle chips and onion dip! That’s a meal right?

9. What would you say to someone thinking about starting CrossFit?
It’s not as scary as you people think! And it will literally change your life! Just try it out past the first month of soreness!

10. Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
Nope

11. How often do you attend?
Usually 4 times a week
