Athlete of the MonthApril

Joe S.

If you're looking for a great workout partner or need to know a fact about something incredibly random, Joe's your guy!

Meet Joe! Our Athlete of the Month for April. This guy right here, wow is he funny and quick witted. He puts 100% effort into everything he does. He’s someone that pushes others at the box and emits so much positivity. You need something? He’ll be there for you! Joe, we’re so happy to have you a part of our family and look forward to watch you dominate 2020 (screw the corona!)

  1. What’s your athletic background? I played basketball through 10th grade while playing baseball and football all the way through high school.

  2. When did you start working out at CrossFit Osiris? Chrissa & I joined Osiris in June of 2017, one short month after the doors opening.

  3. What keeps you coming back? There are a few things that keep me walking in the door every week; the ability to get in a great workout, the welcoming community and finally the coaches who take note of each athlete and don’t let anyone mail in a workout. My body has felt better since joining and I know I am in much better shape!

  4. If you could write the WOD, what would it be? It would be a mixture of power cleans, bar muscle-ups, rope climbs and back squats (all in reasonable quantities of course). I’ll leave the programming up to the experts as they seem to always make an athlete collapse for a few precious minutes after each WOD.

  5. What are some of your goals, fitness or personal? Continue to stay active, strong and flexible as I get older.

  6. List one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CrossFit. I have greatly increased my cardio. I have always enjoyed lifting, but knew I needed a way to incorporate the cardio aspect. CrossFit is a great mixture as you rarely get through a WOD without gasping for air.

  7. How do you like to spend your free time? We enjoy being outside in any season whether it’s playing around in the snow out West or playing softball/golf in the warmer months. I also really enjoy relaxing doing absolutely nothing!

  8. What’s your favorite cheat meal? It could be a double butter burger with cheese from Culvers or Chicken Parmesan or a Chick-fil-A sandwich. I don’t like to limit my cheat meal options.

  9. What would you say to someone thinking about starting CrossFit? Just give it a try and be clear about your goals. Make sure you’re pushed in your workout(s), but also feel comfortable with the community to leave it all on the floor each time you walk in the door. The right place will ease your mind as much as it pushes your body.

  10. Anything else you’d like to share about yourself? I wish I had discovered CrossFit many years ago when I could have pushed my body more! My body likes to remind me that I’m not quite the age I think I am!

  11. How often do you attend? I am in classes 2-3 each week while trying to mix in 1-2 open gym times.

  12. What class do you typically attend? I am usually in the 3:30pm or 4:30pm classes with some Saturday 8:30am classes mixed in. I will bounce around all class times when I need to accommodate my work schedule though
