Athlete of the MonthMay

Matt H.

Meet our May Athlete! Funny, nice, strong and a running machine! But read to learn his big news happening soon!

1. When is your baby due?

Baby H is due may 11th

2. What’s your athletic background?

I’ve always played team sports. Mostly hockey, football and lacrosse. Hockey was always my main sport and I still play when I can. I also always had a lot of hobbies like snowboarding, surfing and water skiing. I always loved playing sports though. It wasn’t until I was done playing competitively that I began enjoying weight training off the field.

3. When did you start working out at CrossFit Osiris?

I joined Osiris before it was even opened. I might have even made if for the first workout ever.

4. What keeps you coming back?

There are a lot of great motivating factors that keep me coming back to Osiris but I’ll just give my top reasons here haha. 1.) I truly love the workouts and that they are diverse, challenging, fun, and I don’t have to pre-plan anything. 2) I love to improve in everything I do, and at Osiris I am constantly motivated to try new lifts, push more weight than I ever thought I could, or do more reps than I ever thought I could, all in an environment that is supportive and encouraging. 3.) All of the friendly faces. Wish I could see more of them more often, but I do love my noon class! Everybody at Osiris is always happy to be at Osiris and that is contagious. I love all of the positive attitudes, and the drive that everybody has in workouts. I truly believe that energy comes from the amazing coaches and staff. They set a great tone and example and we all really appreciate the amazing atmosphere they create.

5. If you could write the WOD, what would it be?

Oh man this is a tough one. I always underestimate WODs before I actually do them, so I have to imagine my WOD would end up being a killer. It obviously has to have running, jumping, and pull ups. Maybe something like:

15 min AMRAP
5 cleans (185)
10 box jump overs
10 pull ups
400 m run.

6. What are some of your goals, fitness or personal?

For fitness my personal goal has always been related to body fat only. My goal is to keep my body fat under 10% for as long as possible. Might be hard soon though, that Dad bod could be in my future.

Personally I have a lot of lofty goals, but lately I’ve been trying to simplify and focus on what matters. So I’d say my personal life goal is to be the best husband I can be to my amazing wife and now soon the best Dad I can be.

7. List one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CrossFit.

Fitness is now a habit and a passion. I used avoid working out or felt like it was a chore I had to do. I never feel that way. Workouts are always something I look forward to now.

8. How do you like to spend your free time?

I love spending time being active with family and friends. I love Boating and wake surfing all summer. Trying to get into the whole golf thing. Snowboarding, snowmobiling, and hockey in the winter. I love too travel when I can too.

9. What’s your favorite cheat meal?

Not going to lie, I don’t really plan my diet lately. Most of my meals end up looking like cheat meals haha. I guess I do feel a little guilty after a couple of my favorite meals. Like a nice greasy meat lovers pizza, or huge pile of nachos.

10. What would you say to someone thinking about starting CrossFit?

Stop thinking about it, and do it. It’s for everybody and everybody. Get in here, listen to your body, and let the coaches show you how to be the best you.

11. Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?

I like turtles.
