Athlete of the MonthSeptember

Raylynn C.

Meet Raylynn! Not only is it her birthday this month, she's the Athlete of the Month AND it's her two year gym-aversary at Osiris!

What’s your athletic background?

I played volleyball, basketball, softball, track in high school. I dabbled in boxing in the Air Force, and I have been teaching group fitness classes for the past 5 years.

When did you start working out at CrossFit Osiris?

I think it was around September 2 years ago.

What keeps you coming back?

Probably Vanessa’s dogs really. I think I would miss them if I ever left. But 100% the community of people and the Osiris staff. You feel accepted the minute you walk through the door and you will not find a better group of people who would help you with anything at the drop of a dime.

If you could write the WOD, what would it be?

I could write a million WODs! Creating crazy WODs is a passion. Just ask Emily. As much as i would go heavy overhead movements all day, you don’t get better unless you practice your weaknesses. Here’s one I want to give a go:
50 DB snatch 70/50#
EMOM(including 0:00)-5 pull-ups
Rest 3 min
50 BBJO 24/20
EMOM (including 0:00)-3 C&J 155/125

What are some of your goals, fitness or personal?

Fitness wise, I really want to be able to bench press and get over head 200 pounds.

List one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CrossFit.

It might sound crazy, but my reflexes have gotten quicker. Haha I am also just overall happier. Also, sweet biceps.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I like to read and watch movies/shows. Play games (video & board) In the summer I like hiking, porch drinking, kayaking, and being outside in general. Since the Randonautica app came out, I’ve been doing that a lot this summer.

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

Tacos and Queso! All of the tacos amd Queso please.

What would you say to someone thinking about starting CrossFit?

Well if you’re thinking about doing it, then absolutely do it. When you start, don’t compare yourself to the fire breathers on the floor. Yes, they RXed it and yes they are laying in a puddle of sweat and tears on the floor. But guess what, so are you! That’s the magical thing about CrossFit. No matter the WOD, you can always push it to a level that YOU feel comfortable with. Your max and someone else’s max might look different, but in the end you’ll both be laying on the floor questioning your life choices and wonder what sweet hell comes tomorrow.

Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?

I have a corgi named Plyo Diggles. He’s a butthead. I have 3 cats that were all saved. I call them Jon Snow and the Dumpster Babies. Look for their hit single “It is 5:31 and you have not fed me yet. Do you hate me?”

How often do you attend?

At least 4 times a week. 5 if I can.

What class do you typically attend?

Usually the 4:30. With working from home that some times varies.
