Athlete of the MonthJune

Terri S.

Terri has been with CrossFit Osiris since the very beginning, May 2017. She is a big part of our community and a regular in our morning/afternoon classes. We are so thankful that she has stuck with us

What do you do for a living? (Work, volunteer, school, etc.)
I have been a preschool teacher for the last 15 years and am currently teaching a mixed age (3, 4, and 5 year-old class) at Acorn Academy in Ham Lake.
How do you spend your free time? Hobbies? (traveling, hunting, sports, etc.)
I try to have activities and hobbies for all seasons so, in my free time I enjoy kayaking, walking, pickleball, gardening, reading, and am beginning to learn to knit.

Anything else you can share about yourself?
I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I have been married to Harry for more than 30 years and we have four kids. After getting married, I lived in Virginia Beach, Ottawa, Canada, and Nevada before moving to Minnesota. Our oldest son Matt and his wife Kristin recently left active duty in the Army as Captains and are headed to UVA to begin their MBA program. Our son Jake and his wife Hannah are both Army First Lieutenants assigned to Fort Campbell in Kentucky. Our daugter Anna is a junior at the University of Minnesota majoring in Economics. Our youngest son, Tommy is headed to the U.S. Naval Academy at the end of June. In case you can’t tell, family is a priority for me!

What’s your athletic background?
None! I have always been active and enjoyed exercise, but I have no formal sports in my history.

How often do you attend, and which class do you typically attend?
I try to attend three times a week and can usually be found at the noon class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

What are some of your fitness goals?
I want to stay healthy and maintain a level of fitness necessary to keep enjoying everyday activities as well as my hobbies which require some physical activity.

What are some of your personal dreams/goals?
I would like to retire in the next 5 years and move to the East Coast to be closer to our kids. I would also like to travel both domestically and internationally.

What is your favorite cheat meal?
It would be ribs with my mom’s barbeque sauce recipe, homemade macaroni and cheese, with lemon cheesecake ice cream for dessert.

If you could write a workout, what would it be?
Four Rounds for Time: 400m run, 40 air squats, 30 situps, 20 pushups, 10 burpees.

What are some improvements/progress you have seen while at Osiris?
I am more fit, have greater physical strength, and am more physically confident since coming to the gym. I also have a HUGE wardrobe of Osiris clothing.

What keeps you coming back?
The community spirit and the skill of the coaches. I also like the fact that no matter what an athlete’s abilities there are always ways to modify movements and individual exercises to get a great workout.

What has your experience been like at CF Osiris?
I tried a bunch of different gyms over the years, but until I came to Osiris I had trouble staying committed and motivated. This is the only gym I have been to where I feel 100% comfortable. The coaches work with you no matter where you are at in your fitness journey. The entire community at Osiris is built around supporting one another!

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about starting CrossFit?
Just take a chance and do it! You won’t regret it. You will find the most encouraging, welcoming community at CF Osiris! You will quickly realize this gym is unlike any other – you will never feel out of place, it is perfect for ALL fitness levels.
