Bio

I’m a born and raised Minnesota boy and have lived in the Coon Rapids area for about 19 years with my wife of 24 years, Kimberly, and my son Bryan.  I grew up in northern Minnesota where I was introduced to martial arts of which spend the better of my twenties deeply involved in and included several years of instructing as well as competing on a national and international level.
I was first introduced to Crossfit about 6 years ago by a retired Navy Seal who was integrating fitness into a personal self-defense program.  I remember quite literally, crawling my way through one of the first workouts that was followed by a drill designed to defend yourself after you are physically exhausted.  It was very intense to say the least but with a background in martial arts from my younger days, I immediately saw the value in what CrossFit had to offer.
What I didn’t realize was the value I discovered in CrossFit that goes far beyond just getting “in shape” for me.  The welcoming and inclusive nature of this community has made fitness fun again in spite of how painful some of the workouts can be!  I always encourage people to just give this a try and step outside your comfort zone, you won’t be disappointed!

FAQs

Favorite movement or WOD?
I really enjoy the Memorial Day Murph workout. The workout is definitely a grind and a challenge but one I look forward to doing with everyone each year. Its also an opportunity to remember and honor both of my grandfathers who each served in WWII and my Father who was a medic in Vietnam and carried some pretty heavy burdens throughout his life.
Least favorite movement or WOD?
Oh definitely overhead squats. I definitely struggle with shoulder mobility and its something that I will always need to work on to improve and at least maintain. I'm pretty sure most of our Crossfit Kids class members could overhead squat more than me!
What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?
I have a variety of hobbies that keep me busy but it all begins with my family and working to be a good father and husband. We like to spend a lot of time up on the North Shore camping, hiking, hunting and spending time by a campfire away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Finish with a joke.
This one came from my wife the nurse that she dropped on me in a very serious nurse like tone after a day of work. Kim - "Did you know......that Viagra has now been found to treat sunburns" Me - (being a Ginger, and highly interested in any solutions) - "Oh really? I never knew that!" Kim - "Yeah, when you're in bed it helps keep the sheets off your skin!"
