June's Athlete of the Month is one of the sweetest, kindest, and BA rowers we have at the box - Amber Underbakke! She's come so far on her fitness/nutrition journey and gives it EVERYTHING she has!
1. What’s your athletic background?
I have only started my athletic journey in the last 1.5 years. I was almost 300lbs and knew if I didn’t change my lifestyle, I would have some major problems soon! I was never athletic growing up even though I played soccer for many years. I was more interested in music than athletics. But now I love working out!
2. When did you start working out at CrossFit Osiris?
I started at Osiris in October of 2018 I think, so about 9 months or so now?
3. What keeps you coming back?
For real the people! I love this community and how they build everyone up with so much confidence it’s amazing! I felt it from the moment I walked in the door and feel the love during every WOD.
4. If you could write the WOD, what would it be?
Oh man, this is tough as I’m still learning so much but if you have gone through a WOD with me it would include something with rowing, or thrusters! I love both those movements.
5. What are some of your goals, fitness or personal?
Goals for fitness would be to improve my running capabilities and get more proficient at pull ups. (I still don’t like running no matter how much Coach Lloyd makes me do it!)
6. List one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CrossFit.
Improvements I have seen since starting CrossFit was for SURE being able to shovel all the crazy amounts of snow we got this past winter!
7. How do you like to spend your free time?
I like spending my free time with my husband Tim visiting museums or making him take me to see musicals downtown. I try and see at least 2-3 plays a year! We also have lots of fur babies that keep us busy (dogs and cats!).
8. What’s your favorite cheat meal?
Doughnuts. Give me all the doughnuts, YUM! Hans Bakery in Anoka has my favorite kind (old fashioned glazed). I’ll take any recommendations though for new doughnut places to try!
9. What would you say to someone thinking about starting CrossFit?
JUST DO IT! ️It may seem scary or intimidating to start but we all started somewhere. Don’t let your fear of new things or not knowing anyone keep you away from something so FUN! I didn’t know ANYONE when I started (I literally found Osiris from a Google search and had ZERO knowledge about CrossFit) and I have so many new friends now!
10. Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
Fun fact is that I’m obsessed with cats. I love all cats and would adopt every cat I could if my husband would let me!
Also, if you’re new to Osiris, come introduce yourself to me. I love new faces/people and I’ll buddy up with ya!
