Desiree Alexandra! Excited for you all to learn about her this month. Her beauty shines bright, her commitment to herself worth applauding, and her determination doesn’t go unnoticed. She’s kicking butt inside and outside of the gym!
1. What’s your athletic background?
I was in gymnastics since Kindergarten. Then in high school, it was gymnastics and track. In college, I played a lot of intramural indoor and sand volleyball and then took a weight lifting class for a PE credit. That’s when I discovered my love for weight training. Since then, I have always had a gym membership somewhere, where I would do some weight training. For the last 10 years, I had been following a lot of professional weight lifting athletes on social media and was mesmerized watching videos of olympic lifts and CrossFit competitions. It gave me goosebumps watching and I wanted to be a part of it but kept coming up with excuses as to why I couldn’t.
2. When did you start working out at CrossFit Osiris?
I googled “crossfit gyms near me” in November 2019 and Osiris popped up. I made an appt to meet with Vanessa for a consult that week and have been coming ever since!
3. What keeps you coming back?
The community, the coaches, the fact that someone else programs the workouts for me so I just have to show up. I love that the workouts are different every time and they push my limits. There’s a lot that I can’t do yet, but I love that modifying is totally acceptable. I love that we all encourage each other. Also, for me, there’s no bigger rush than cleaning up a heavy barbell, catching it and feeling the weight of it jolt your body downward for a second and then successfully completing the lift and dropping it. The sound of heavy barbells dropping in the box is one of my favorite sounds in life!
